Are online courses easier than on-campus courses?
The difficulty of course material varies more according to the instructor's approach and interests than whether it is on-campus or online. However, online courses do require a special commitment to schedule your time and consistently complete your work.
Do FRC online courses satisfy the same requirements as on-campus courses?
Yes, with the possible exception of lab courses for transfer to other schools. Consequently FRC usually offers lab courses either on-campus or as hybrid courses with the lab component on-campus.
Do I need to request to be added to an online course area (Canvas)?
No., You are automatically added to FRC online courses within approximately 24 hours of your official registration in the course. If you drop the course you will be removed from the online course area. However, later in the semester Canvas is not updated as often so it may take a few days for you to be removed from the online course area.
Does FRC offer fully online degrees?
Not at this time. In some programs it is possible to complete most of your degree requirements online. There are also many online general education courses that fulfill requirements for all degrees. See an advisor for details.
How do I find out what FRC courses are being offered online?
To find the FRC courses that are being offered fully online, click the "Course Search" link at the top of all FRC website pages. Make the selections for the type and time of courses you want, and be sure to select "online" in the "Session" menu. You can also look for courses that are identified as online in our printed course schedule.
Many FRC courses are taught partially online (they are called "hybrid" courses). These are not identified as online in the Course Search function or in the printed schedule. Contact the instructor to find out if portions of the course will be online.
How do I register for FRC online courses?
You register for FRC online courses the same way you register for all other courses. Go to the Admissions menu and select "Prospective Students" for detailed instructions. You do not need to create an account in Canvas, the website area where your online class will be held. After you register and usually within 24 hours you will automatically be entered into the roster of your online course area.
If I take a course online, will it show up on my transcript as an online course?
No. Regardless of the methods used to deliver a course, all courses taught at accredited colleges and universities are required to meet the same standards and learning objectives. Consequently California Community Colleges do not identify on transcripts whether courses were taught online or on campus.
