Community Host Program
As a Community Host, you volunteer your time to support one or two college kids who need a familiar face in their new environment. Often it helps the students to adjust when they have a peer by their side, in fact many of our applicants request to be paired with their friends. There is little to no financial commitment with the program which is fully funded and sponsored by the Foundation.
As a Community Host What’s in it For You?
Having an adult influence is extremely beneficial to a new college student. They are at a very pivotal time in their lives, and having someone around for support is essential for their success. In being a Community Host Parent, you would be involved in the making of a great person. Some of the benefits for you are:
o Influencing a student’s success at Feather River College
o Interacting with the younger generation
o Offering counsel and support to a student
o Interaction with fellow participating community members
o Being a network to a student who might move back to the area
Here are some opportunities and experiences you can have with your local host:
o Have dinner and a game night
o Go out for meals
o Celebrate your birthday!
o Visit some of favorite spots in Plumas County
o Go to the movies, bowling, or biking
o Participate in local events like parades, The Quincy Star Follies, or Dancing With The Stars
o Invite them to your sporting events
o Go to Reno or Chico

"My experience with the community host program has been fantastic, both my host parents where welcoming and provided some great experiences, I would recommend any international to get involved, because it’s good to have someone else to talk to and someone who cares and will help you with any struggles that you may face being an international, plus my hosts make great food!"
