Students with Disabilities

Feather River College strives to make online course offerings accessible to students with disabilities. Faculty have access to training and are encouraged to design web content that meets the standards of accessibility.

Students with disabilities are encouraged to register with FRC's Disability Support Program and Services, then contact their instructors and request accommodations, such as extra time on an exam.

It's advisable that students with disabilities customize their web browsers take advantage of the accessibility features within web browsers. They should also customize their computers and mobile devices to ensure maximum accessibility. For instance, students can adjust the text size to suit their needs.

Canvas Accessibility

Canvas software is regularly upgraded to ensure accessibility. Read about accessibility within Canvas.

Immersive Reader by Microsoft

To use Immersive Reader in Canvas, you follow these steps:

  1. Click on your profile picture in Canvas.
  2. Click on “settings.”
  3. Scroll down to “feature” and then find “Microsoft Immersive Reader” and turn it on.
  4. While viewing a page in Canvas, click the Immersive Reader button.
  5. You can manage text, grammar, and reading preferences using the toolbar.
  6. To expand the reader display, click the Full Screen button.
  7. To hear the page text read aloud, click the Play button.
