FRC Adds 24/7 Tele-mental Health from TimelyCare to Existing Wellness Center Services as Additional Support for Students’ Mental Health Needs

Quincy, CA - As part of Feather River College’s ongoing efforts to prioritize the health and well-being of the campus community, students now have free and immediate access to tele-mental health support through TimelyMD, the leading telehealth company specializing in higher education.

TimelyCare offers students a 24/7 extension of the existing services that are available M-F through the on-campus Mental Health and Wellness Center. TimelyCare is as easy and convenient as making a video or phone call. Through the TimelyCare app on their phone or other device, Feather River College students can now select from a wide-ranging menu of virtual care options from licensed counselors in all 50 states – at no cost to them and without the hassle of traditional insurance – including: 

• On-demand mental health support available 24/7 (TalkNow)
• Appointment-based mental health counseling with access to a diverse network of providers (Scheduled)

TimelyCare allows students to see the profiles, faces and specialty care details of a diverse range of licensed counselors available to them. They can choose to meet with a specific provider or select the first available. Typical consultations begin within 5-10 minutes – less than the amount of time it takes to walk across campus.

Vice President of Student Services, Carlie McCarthy, and on-campus Mental Health Counselor, Nick Maez shared that last year the college saw an increase in demand for mental health services, including outside of regular business hours, as well as a need to access a diverse network of providers, much of it a result of the pandemic. TimelyCare enhances campus resources by making care more readily available to students whenever it’s convenient for them, reducing the stigma we often see around mental health counseling, and grant peace of mind to students and their families.

Demand for teletherapy visits skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to be high as everyday activities resume. Mental health remains the top concern of college and university presidents.
