About Our Staff

William (Billy) Ogle, TRiO SSS Director: Having previously been a first-generation, low-income Feather River College student (class of 2006), I have experienced firsthand the many challenges TRiO-eligible students face. As the son of a custodian and office clerk, I remember walking up the hill to campus for my first class and the apprehension I felt as the first person in my family to go to college. After finishing at FRC, I transferred to Humboldt State University where I received a B.S. in Biology and later completed a Master of Education degree from The University of Texas at Arlington. I understand the overwhelming obstacles that first-generation, low-income students face, from navigating the complexities of the FAFSA and financial aid to filling out applications to 4-year universities when it comes time to transfer. As the director of TRiO SSS, I am passionate about doing everything I can to get students in the program over all of the hurdles they will face during their time at FRC and to ultimately be successful in achieving their academic, career, and life goals.

Debbie Corsino, TRiO SSS Lead Advisor: Growing up in inner-city Chicago as a first-generation/low-income student, college was not even thought of as an option.  If it wasn’t for an admissions counselor from the University of Illinois thrusting an application in my hands with a stern look and voice telling me to fill out the application, I would never have tried.  It was one of the best things to ever happen to me because it not only opened my eyes to the possibilities, it also let me know I was “good enough” to even try.  I am a TRiO-Lifer.  I am an alum of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s TRiO/Student Support Services program, worked for that very same program as a professional, and even directed my own TRiO/SSS program.  Now, I am back in TRiO after being a director of a multicultural center and I am loving it!  I hold both a BA in Speech Communication and a Master of Education- Educational Policy Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and am currently working on an Educational Leadership in Higher Education Specialist Degree at Northcentral University.  As you can see, learning is a life-long journey for me—all because TRiO taught me the possibilities are there for me to pursue at any age or time in one’s life.

Dan Smith, TRiO SSS Advisor: I earned both my bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (with a minor in Health) and my master’s degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Chico. I love working with college students and helping them on their path towards pursuing a higher education. I feel absolutely honored to be a part of TRIO students' lives and look forward to coming to work each day. As a newer TRIO SSS academic advisor, I have enjoyed the opportunity to participate in TRIO events, help serve TRIO students, and build positive relationships with the staff and students of Feather River College. In Addition to TRIO advising, I teach Human Anatomy/ Physiology classes and Biology labs here on campus. When I am not working, I love to go hiking, biking, snowboarding, running, or gardening at home. I also enjoy reading, cooking, traveling, and seeing live music.
