Talent Search Program

Every student has talent!

We help students to explore their interests and learn the skills to create a strong plan for life after high school.

Career Exploration

Students take surveys in values, skills, and interests in order to help guide them towards a field that is aligned with their talents, interests and goals.  Students learn all about career sectors and possible career paths in a variety of industries.  Talent Search organizes a College & Career Day at FRC for juniors and seniors from all schools, where students can have meaningful conversations with adults who are working in a wide variety of careers and industries, as well as talk with reps from various CSUs, UCs, private 4-year colleges and local community colleges.

Financial Skills

Students learn skills of personal finance needed to assist them in navigating their first years out of high school.  Budgeting, banking, credit and financial aid for college are covered.

Field Trips

Each year the Talent Search program sponsors several field trips. All ninth graders visit Feather River College Campus for Navigation Day, which includes a campus tour, hands-on demonstrations of college classes and a panel of current students talking about college life.  Sophomores and juniors go on College Tours to experience college life on campuses like University of Nevada at Reno, Truckee Meadows Community College, CSU Chico and Butte College.  Talent Search helps to fund the "Plumas to Pacific" environmental science program that takes middle school students on all day field trips and culminates in a 5-day field trip to explore the Feather River Watershed. Students explore science activities and discuss careers in science and technology fields throughout the course.

Choosing the Right College

Students learn all the possibilities in how to receive further training and education after high school.  Students explore their own values and consider entrance requirements, cost, majors offered, student life, and other aspects of college in the decision-making process.

College Admissions, Application Information and Assistance

Talent Search Advisors work with students and high school counselors to provide information on college admissions and application deadlines. Seniors are offered individual assistance with college applications and essay writing.

Financial Aid and FAFSA Application Assistance

Each student is provided with information about financial aid and the FAFSA application process. Talent Search organizes "Cash for College" nights where seniors and their parents and guardians get comprehensive information about financial aid for college and assistance in completing the FAFSA, the financial aid application.
