Quincy, CA – The unprecedented and rapid changes to the world of education due to the COVID pandemic have presented immense challenges to students, so when two Feather River College (FRC) scholars received awards from the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society, we knew it must have taken a special amount of time and dedication to accomplish this. Recently, FRC learned that two students have been selected to the 2021 PTK All-California Community College Academic Team. This feat deserves much recognition as it was accomplished during a very trying and challenging year.

Selected to the All-Academic Team is Angelina Wilson who is a sophomore at Feather River College. Angelina is a first-generation college student who inspired others to pursue their goals through the power of education. She hopes to become an English instructor in order to help students gain the skills they need for success in academics. She currently serves as Student Trustee at Feather River College as well as President of the college’s PTK chapter, Alpha Psi Zeta. Through these positions, she works to help students succeed in their college experience and find a sense of belonging in an academic environment.

Joining Angelina is Olivia Long, who is currently a sophomore and double majoring in agriculture and biology. During her time at FRC, she has been the recipient of an advanced math award for her skills in calculus, and acted as an academic coach in subjects such as calculus and biology for dozens of students. She also enjoys aiding in the sustainable food project in our community, as it furthers awareness of ethical food practices and affordable, healthy produce. Outside of school, Olivia studies embryology and development of bovine and equine species in pursuance of her passion of genetics and genomics. Olivia plans on completing a bachelor's degree in animal science and going on to a career to better improve the lives of animals.

Feather River College is very proud of these two scholars and knows they will succeed in whatever the next chapter of life brings for them. Having the determination to rise above the challenges we all faced this recent year speaks to the work ethic and academic ability of these two talented individuals. Thank you Angelina and Olivia for everything you have contributed to FRC during your time here, we all appreciate you!
