What is Upward Bound?

Upward Bound is one of three federally funded TRiO programs hosted by Feather River College.  It is a year-round educational program for motivated students with academic potential who want to continue their education after high school.

FRC Upward Bound serves 53 students from the following high schools: Chester, Greenville, Quincy and Portola.  The program provides:

Academic advisement

Enrichment courses

SAT prep

College tours

College admissions assistance

Financial aid and scholarship assistance

In addition, Upward Bound provides an intensive six-week summer component where students receive a real college experience by taking classes on the FRC Campus.  Students of Upward Bound commit to participation in the program for the duration of high school.

Upward Bound has helped thousands of students succeed since 1966.  Because Upward Bound is a federally funded TRiO Program, there is no cost to participate.

Summer Program

Upward Bound conducts a six-week summer program where students attend classes at Feather River College.

Our students participate in a wide variety of academic, cultural, social, and recreational activities during the summer program, which allows them to experience different aspects of college life while still in high school.  Our summer program includes courses in Math, English, Science, Foreign Language, and Student Leadership.  Students begin the summer with a leadership camp and will also attend a trip to explore different college campuses at the end of the summer program.

Upward Bound participants who attend all advisor/tutoring meetings and Saturday Academies will receive $40 per month throughout the academic year.  Participants will also receive $60 per month while participating in the summer program.

Internship Program

Students with the highest attendance in the summer program are eligible to intern in a field related to their career interests and can earn up to $300 for their participation.  Internships are subject to availability but serve as a great experience for our students.
