What is Upward Bound?

Upward Bound is a federally funded year-round educational opportunity program designed to help high school students prepare for post-secondary education. Upward Bound (UB) is designed to stimulate and motivate low-income and/or potental first-generation* students to complete high school and pursue and succeed in a program of post-secondary education.  Participants should be interested in going to college and be committed to working hard to achieve that goal.

Summer Program

Upward Bound conducts a six-week summer program where students attend classes at Feather River College.

Our students participate in a wide variety of academic, cultural, social, and recreational activities during the summer program, which allows them to experience different aspects of college life while still in high school.  Our summer program includes courses in Math, English, Science, Foreign Language, Music, and Student Leadership.  Students will also attend a 4-5 day trip to explore different college campuses at the end of the summer program.

How often do services take place?

Saturday Academies take place one to two Saturdays per month from September to May.

Upward Bound Advisors and tutors will make weekly contact with each Upward Bound participant.

The Summer Program is six weeks long and takes place from mid June to late July each year.  After their Senior year, students may participate in a Summer Bridge program and take up to 12 units of freshman level college classes to get a jump start on their education.

Stipends

Upward Bound participants who attend all advisor meetings and Saturday Academies will receive $40 per month throughout the academic year.  Participants will also receive $60 per month while participating in the summer program. Rising Juniors and Seniors will have the opportunity to earn workstudy money during the summer program.
