CalWorks
California Work Opportunities and Responsibilities to Kids (CalWORKs) provides support services to people who are receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) and want to attend school.
Support services include:
- Job development and placement
- Curriculum development and redesign to students' needs
- Childcare referrals and provisions
- Personal counseling
- Work-study placement
- Interfacing with the Department of Social Services
- Referrals to campus and community services for tutoring,
housing, and crisis management
Students may be enrolled part-time or full-time in a number of areas including GED preparation, vocational education, technology training, and general education.
The CalWORKs office assists student clients "to achieve long-term self-sufficiency" through education.
