Child Development Center

A play based preschool celebrating

diversity, discovery and wonder.

     The Child Development Center (CDC) offers a creative preschool program for children ages 2-5 years. The program is Nationally Accredited through the National Association for the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC) and  offers a setting that is rich in a variety of educational materials and activities that encourage enthusiasm for learning.  The staff is professionally trained in Early Childhood Education and offers a nurturing environment with a creative, play-based curriculum that celebrates curiosity, discovery, and imagination. A nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack is prepared daily.

    Student-parents carrying 6 or more units may enroll their children free of charge or for a minimal fee (depending on income).  There are openings for working/community members as well.

Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Teaching Staff...

  • The CDC is staffed by a Director and Teachers who are professionally trained and experienced in Early Childhood Education.
  • The staff engages in ongoing professional development.
  • Teachers act as facilitators to help children be creative thinkers by providing materials and resources that give confidence to their ideas.
  • Teaching staff is complemeted by an experienced cook, an office assistant and student teachers from the college.
  • Parent involvement is encouraged; the center works to provide a variety of meaningful and nurturing adult interactions.

Nutritious Meals ...

  • The CDC serves nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack each day that is prepared fresh in their own kitchen by an experienced cook.
  • The children help prepare some of the food through various cooking activities.
  • The CDC is sponsored by the Child Care Food Program.

Health Services

Feather River College provides Health Services to students free of charge through an agreement with the Plumas County Public Health Agency Health Clinic.  

Services Include (but not limited to):

  • First aid & triage, referral as needed
  • Family planning, pregnancy testing, education, referral
  • HIV testing, counseling, education, referral
  • Immunications
  • TB skin testing
  • Assessment of health risk behavior, counseling, intervention, referral
  • Health & lifestyle counseling, education
  • Assessment for sexually transmitted disease, information, referral
  • Physical assessment, referral
  • Seminars on various helath topics

For immediate needs such as triage or severe illness, students may stop by the Clinic during regular hours.

Providers Include: a doctor, physician's assistant, and nurse

Hours Services are Availalbe:  Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (call 283-6330 to make an appointment).

The Plumas County Health Clinic is located in the new building next to the FRC Residence Hall.

Student Insurance: The College provides students with limited secondary accident insurance coverage in the event of an injury occurring in the course of a college class or activity.  All such accidents should be reported immediately to the instructor or staff member in charge of the class or activity, or the Human Resources Office.  It is the student's responsibility to file any insurance claims with their primary carrier, then with the secondary accident insurance. 

Students may purchase additional low-cost health insurance to cover general medical needs.  Applications and general information on low-cost health insurance are available in the Human Resources Office.
