Welcome to the Golden Eagle's Cross Country and Track Program!!

 

Feather River College Women’s Cross Country team had it’s inaugural meet Friday, September 17th at the Beaver Invitational at Beal's Point in Folsom, hosted by American River College. Thirteen schools were in attendance for the race, which saw 69 women in the brackets. With long awaited anticipation Jasmine Lagrone, Cara Befort, and Jamie Porter are the first competitors in the schools history. Jasmine finished in the top 20 runners of the day with a 5 kilometer time of  21 minutes 16 seconds. Jamie porter finished with a time of 24 minutes 54 seconds and Cara Befort finished with a time of 25 minutes 12 seconds. Both Cara and Jamie ran personal bests for the 5k . “All three girls performance was outstanding! Their times drop every week and I am confident by the end of the season all three will easily run qualifying times to compete in the conference championships.”

 

Head Coach Daniel Smith...

Daniel is a twenty year resident of Plumas County and a Quincy High School graduate.  Following High school Dan attended Santa Barbara City College where he discovered his passion for track and field. Dan mentored in track and field under the retired Payton Jordan. In his freshman year he competed in the 5000 and 1000 meter races. Changing gears for his sophomore year he competed in all three jumping events including the triple long and high jumps. In addition to jumping he ran the 110 high hurdles, 400 meter hurdles and 4 by 400 meter relay, as well as, throwing the javelin. After graduating from Santa Barbara City College, he transferred to Chico State University to pursue a degree in Physical Education. Dan played on the Chico State basketball team for the remainder of his undergraduate years under coach Puck Smith. Dan received his undergraduate degree in physical education and then went on to complete his Masters degree in Kinesiology.

Daniel has been the assistant athletic trainer at Feather River College for the past two years. Currently Daniel competes in 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer races annually as a way of healthy living. As a highly motivated and energetic new coach he is looking forward to his first year as the Feather River College building a successful and community based local cross country /track and field program.
