For those students who are not seeking an A.A. or A.S. degree in certain vocational fields, the Certificate of Achievement provides an alternative. Most Certificates of Achievement require only the main courses from the major as opposed to degrees that require General Education and Elective courses as well. Information about these specificprograms is available on the Instruction Home page.

The Feather River College Honors Program offers students new challenges and learning experiences. The program is built on a core of the team-taught inter-disciplinary courses that engage interesting concepts and topics. Courses intersect the areas of history, literature, social sciences, economics, anthropology, science, gender studies and cultural studies as they explore the relation among the world, ideas and ourselves. All courses are accepted for FRC GED requirements for the Associate in Arts degree. Courses are currently undergoing articulation for transfer credit to both CSU and UC systems. Further information is available on the Honors Program Page

For those students planning future transfer to four-year colleges and universities, Feather River College transfer program classes parallel the freshman and sophomore courses offered at four-year schools. All lower division general education requirements and many introductory major requirements can be completed at FRC in preparation for the attainment of a bachelor’s degree at another school. Transfer students work closely with counselors to identify and schedule classes needed for specific majors. FRC’s transfer program provides a supportive, affordable transition to university-level education. Further information about transferring to other schools is located on the Transfer Programs page.

Some students have difficulty taking classes on campus, so the FRC distance education program was designed to serve the residents of the Feather River Community College District, both at the remote campuses in Chester and Portola and in Plumas County at large. Teleconferencing is currently available at the Chester location, and students are able to take certain computer-based courses from their homes. Further information on these classes is available on the Distance Education page.

In its continuing commitment to the college’s mission of enhancing potential through learning, Feather River College course and program offerings are being constantly reviewed in order to best meet the needs of the students and the community.  As new needs are recognized, new classes and programs are being developed to meet those requirements.
