My name is Adam Ponikvar, but everyone calls me Coach P. I am the new assistant women’s basketball coach at FRC and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.
I graduated high school in 2000 from Hoopa High, which is located between Redding and Eureka on Highway 299. The highlight of my experience at Hoopa High was making it to the Division 5 State Championship my senior year and playing at Arco Arena. After graduation I attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, where I majored in Sociology and Minored in Athletic Coaching. I got involved with women’s basketball during my freshman year and have been hooked ever since.
This is my eighth season as a women’s basketball coach, the first five were at UC Santa Barbara and we participated in the playoffs every season. The highlight of my tenure at UCSB was playing in the NCAA Sweet 16 and assisting in the development of three post players who were drafted by the WNBA. I then spent two seasons at Long Beach State University, where I assisted in recruiting student-athletes throughout the nation.
Now I am happy to return home to Northern California and I am looking forward to my time coaching at Feather River College. I have been in Quincy for over two months now and the transition has been wonderful. I have enjoyed being close to my family & friends and am looking forward to the winter snow.
If you are looking for a team where you can improve your skills and develop into a strong candidate for a four year university, FRC is the place for you! With our passion and knowledge of the game, along with your hard work and determination, FRC will continue to be a threat in the Golden Valley Conference. If you are ever at a game, please come up and introduce yourself. I look forward to getting to know you and I hope to be coaching you next season.
