WOMEN'S BASKETBALL 2007-2008 OUTLOOK
Entering her first year as the head coach of the Feather River College Golden Eagles, Haley White seems to have many pieces in place for a strong 2007-2008 season. The team is returning three sophomores, and adds six freshmen to complete the roster. The Golden Eagles have a tough Golden Valley Conference schedule, along with a challenging pre-season schedule. Coach White is also excited with the addition of Katie Richelieu to the FRC coaching staff, and they both look forward to a fun and exciting year of women’s basketball.
At the shooting guard positions are Delicia Williams, Jessie Felker, and Amanda Brandenburg. “Williams (Las Vegas) is a fantastic shooter and will have the green light to let it fly when she is open.. Felker (Reno) has proven herself as a hard worker and will be asked to do a variety of tasks for the Golden Eagles including posting up smaller guards and playing in 'your face' defense.” Rounding up the returners is Amanda Brandenburg (Dayton) who, “continues to get better everyday, and who will be seen as a leader on the team.”
The incoming freshmen class “is a very talented and motivated group” and will be a factor in the success of the Golden Eagles this season. Point guards Caroline Andre (Sweden) and Rashonda McAlister (Reno) will set the tempo for which the Golden Eagles wish to play. “Both young ladies are very quick and will be looked at to push the ball up the court as quickly as possible. They will also be a factor on the defensive side of the ball as they possess the aggressiveness and toughness it takes to be a great defender. Hug High guard Kaneisha Jones will be looked at for her ability to put the ball on the floor and take the jumper. “Kaneisha has a tremendous talent of getting the ball to the rim and finishing with a fantastic move.” Angela Hensey (Las Vegas) will add a favorable dimension to the Golden Eagle team as a forward who will be utilized in the paint and the perimeter. “Like Kaneisha, Angela can get into the lane and make great shots. She is very athletic and will also be a key factor on defense as she has the quickness and long arms needed to get deflections and turnovers. Shalyce Parashonts (Moapa, NV) will be looked for her contributions in the post and the peremiter. “Shalyce has a lot of great post moves and always is pushing herself to outwork her opponent.” LaMechia Gowans (Las Vegas) rounds up the freshman class, and she will be a dominate force in the paint. “LaMechia runs the floor very well and has ability to feel where her defender is before making her move.”
The Lady Eagles went through a rigorous pre-season conditioning and strength program in combination with individual workouts. Coach White feels that the team is in great physical and mental shape, and will be a fun group of young ladies to watch and support.
