November 21, 2009 – Mendocino Tournament
Written by: Lenise “Nene” Cambell #04
This weekend we traveled to Ukiah for the Mendocino Tournament. We played our first game against East LA and ended up beating them by 4 pts. even though we gave up 28 offensive rebounds which kept them in the game. Near the end of the game we were up two points, so Coach White drew up a play for me to receive a back screen and to go long for a deep pass because they were fronting everyone to deny the inbounds pass. We executed the play perfectly and I got a wide open lay-up to extend the lead to 4 with about 2 seconds left on the clock. Our next opponent was Taft College; we knew they were very tall and athletic after watching their previous game against Skyline the day before. Our goal was to start off the game with more intensity and not to allow as many offensive rebounds. We accomplished both our goals by holding Taft to 5 offensive rebounds in the first half and leading 21–4 after 10 minutes of game time. They went on a scoring run before the end of the half to get back into the game, but we stuck together as a team and played smarter down the stretch of the second half to win by 15 points. We spent time together as a team in between games by going to the movies and seeing The Blind Side. It was such a GREAT movie!!! Everybody enjoyed it and it even had some of my teammates in tears. Now we’re off to the championship game against Lassen College. I’m so excited and happy for my team. As long as we keep playing together and keep getting along on and off the court, we should have GREAT results when conference comes around!

October 19th 2009 – Homecoming Week

This past Thursday was our first official practice. The team was pumped to get practice started because this meant there was only two and a half weeks till our first tournament in Sacramento! Our team loves traveling, not because we get to miss class, but because the vans we travel in is where most of our team bonding happens. Also this past Saturday was our homecoming, so after our practice on Friday our team went to the bonfire where there was bumpin’ music, spaghetti, and a car from the junkyard that people took turns hitting and beating up! It was awesome, everybody came: coaches, students, athletes, and even families. It was fun being able to hang out with everybody on all the different teams, and conversing with the all the coaches too. Saturday morning we had practice for about an hour and then our team went to the football game afterwards.

September 13th 2009 – Weekly Recap with Erica Haedrich

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
This week, we had our usual track and weight room workouts on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. We were also able to work on our guard and post moves in our new gym which looks amazing. On Thursday we had our team pictures taken on the lawn in front of our gym. After our team picture we had our individual and buddy pictures taken; some people took regular shots with a basketball, and our tree-huggers took theirs with a ball against a tree. As for school, we had our first Biology test on Thursday and our team formed a few study groups to understand all the material. There was also an Administrative Justice test on first responders “on-scene” at a crime scene. On Wednesday we had a team bonding activity at Coach White’s house where we painted the letters of her son’s name to hang on his bedroom wall. The team broke up in three groups and our coaches judged each group to see what letters were painted and decorated the best.

September 4th 2009 – Weekly Recap with Brianna Dunn
Written by: Brianna Dunn
This week was a fun week as usual, with school and basketball. For basketball we had weights and got our usual workout in which consisted of bench press, squats, high pulls, hang cleans, and various other exercises. I love weights because of the workout, however we included our “Abs” workout this week which was killer, but was good for us.
We also ran on the track after weights, I had to watch because of my knees = ( but the team had a good workout. Instead of working out on the track, I did my rehab workout with the trainers on the slide-board and that hurt just as bad. Not being able to run right now because of my knees stinks, but I know that in the end everyone is going to be working hard to push themselves to their max and it will all be worth it in the end.
Next week we will start out gym workouts and scrimmage against each other. FRC is having a brand new floor put in with a new paint job and I am excited to see how it turns out. Plus it is always fun to compete against each other as well.
I am ready for season to start so we can start our team bonding experience, even though we all pretty much know each other from last year. It will be fun to include the new faces and hang out with everyone which will be a good experience for us.
