Nick Taliaferro Dallas Osburn
Feather River College to Compete at its
First Ever College National Finals Rodeo
May 13, 2005. Feather River College Rodeo’s inaugural season of competition will not end at the regional level. Dallas Osburn from Santa Maria, Ca. and Nick Taliaferro From Tres Pinos, Ca. are headed on to the College National Finals in Casper, Wyoming. The College Finals is a ten day competition with over 150 colleges and universities, and over 700 contestants representing schools from throughout the United States and Canada. Osburn and Taliaferro will be entering the Team Roping event at the College Finals. They will be competing not only for a college national championship but also for a large amount of scholarship money that is given away to the students who perform well in Casper.
The two students earned their seeds at the West Coast Regional Finals which were held at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Feather River College made an outstanding showing at the final regional rodeo held at UNLV. Taliaferro placed in both the Team Roping and Calf Roping. Osburn placed in the Saddle Bronc Riding and Team Roping. Tyson Torvik placed in the Steer wrestling, and Joe Tipton placed in the Saddle Bronc Riding.
The final competition left Feather River College in third place for the year in the West Coast Region behind Cal Poly and UNLV. Feather River College placed higher than all other community colleges in the region. This is very impressive for their first year of competition. Most of the students on the team are freshmen, leaving us very optimistic for next year’s rodeo season. However, the hopes of a National Title for FRC in its first year of rodeo competition are still alive with Taliaferro and Osburn, both of whom have their sights set on becoming National Champions. |
