Feather River College Makes its Presence Known at College National Finals Rodeo

June 2005. - The Feather River College rodeo team’s inaugural trip to the College National Finals Rodeo (“CNFR”) was very productive. The two students that made the trip out to Casper, Wyoming to represent FRC were Dallas Osburn (Santa Maria, CA) and Nick Taliaferro (Hollister, CA). Both Osburn and Taliaferro earned valuable points for FRC that contributed to the overall standing of the college. FRC concluded its first ever showing at the CNFR ranked 25th out of 150 colleges and universities from all over the United States and Canada, some of which have been competing for over 45 years.

Osburn had a very strong showing in the Team Roping, and ended up 5th in the Nation. Osburn, who was also the rodeo club president at FRC and holds a 3.4 G.P.A, performs on the heading end of the Team Roping. He plans on coming back to FRC for another year before transferring on to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. Osburn also competes in the Saddle Bronc, Tie Down Roping, and Steer Wrestling and hopes next year to compete in more than one event at the College National Finals Rodeo.

Taliaferro started off the week at the CNFR rather slow but all of that changed in the third round when he was a smoking 5.9 seconds in the team roping. The 5.9 placed in the round and was the fourth fastest time of the entire rodeo. Taliaferro performs on the heeling end of the Team Roping. Taliaferro also plans on returning in the fall to FRC to concentrate on his A.A. in Business.

FRC will host its second annual rodeo on Friday and Saturday, September 30th and October 1st at the Plumas County Fairgrounds.
