Rob Cushman -Head Football Coach, Feather River College

In March 2002, Feather River College hired Rob Cushman as their first head coach for their inaugural football team. Coach Cushman came to FRC after 15 years of coaching at Eastern Oregon University, the last five years as the head coach. While at EOU, Cushman's teams set multiple records including 1998 and 1999, the university's best back-to-back records in 24 years. In addition, as an Assistant Professor in Physical Education at EOU, Cushman taught activity and lecture classes in the major. His area of emphasis included Sports History in America and Sports Ethics. During his tenure at EOU, Cushman received a Faculty Merit for his teaching in 2000, a first for a coach/instructor.

At Feather River College, Coach Cushman with his outstanding staff have built an impressive program based on structure and discipline. Team members are empowered to become leaders. The first two seasons have been notable both on the field and in the classroom. While team members earned an overall GPA of2. 76 in the classroom, they finished their inaugural season with a 6-4 record, and were selected to play in the California Clo-Bowl. Last fall the team recorded a 9-1 mark, and played in the prestigious Holiday Bowl. Of the 27 sophomores who completed FRC's first two seasons, 16 signed athletic/academic scholarships to continue their educations. Two team members were recognized nationally as academic award winners, and recently one member was selected to the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa All-California Academic Team.

While at FRC, Cushman has taught physical education and speech, as well as continuing to teach sport's history. He has served on the Curriculum Committee, the Academic Policies Committee and the Student Services Committee. He was recently elected Academic Senate President for the coming school year. Coach Cushman is married to the fon1ler Jessica Miller and has a stepson Roman, 11 and a daughter Cassie 17, who will attend Mt. Holyoke College in the fall.
