Golden Eagles Receive Post-Season Honors

May 21, 2012

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles received post-season accolades as announced by the CCCBCA office. The Golden Eagles placed two players on the Northern California All-American First Team. Freshman shortstop, Justin Bohn, and sophomore second baseman, Austin Bali, were selected to the All-American Team. Bohn was selected as the Player of the Year in the Golden Valley Conference after leading the conference in hitting. Bali was selected to the Golden Valley Conference first team as an infielder. Freshman pitcher, Michael Bennett, was selected to the All-Northern California team after being selected as the Pitcher of the Year in the GVC.

The Golden Eagles also placed seven players on the Golden Valley Conference   first team, including the Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, as well as one player on the GVC Second Team.

Golden Eagles Finish Season At Super Regionals

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles finished the 2012 baseball season with the fourth most wins in the state of California, as they finished the season with a 32-8 record. The Golden Eagles season ended in the Super Regionals, hosted by the Golden Eagles, as they lost to Sierra College in game one by a score of 5-3 and then in game two Merced College won 2-0 over Feather River. The big blow for the Golden Eagles in the two games was the inability to get the key hit with runners on base. The Golden Eagles left 24 runners on base in the two super-regional games. The Golden Eagles out hit both opponents in the super-regional and the pitching for the Golden Eagles was outstanding.

Golden Eagles Advance To Super Regionals

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles swept Sacramento City College in two games to advance to the Super-Regionals for the third time in five years. The Golden Eagles won game one of the best of three series on Saturday by a score of 13-5 and they won game two to clinch the series on Sunday by a score of 11-10. The Golden Eagles will now host the Super Regionals beginning Friday, May 11th. With the sweep the Golden Eagles run their overall record on the season to 32-6.

In Saturday's opening game of the Regionals the Golden Eagles were able to score all there runs in three innings as they won 13-5 over the Panthers. The Golden Eagles started freshman Michael Bennett on the mound and he pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowed nine hits, one earned run, and he struck out six Panther hitters for his tenth victory of the season. Sophomores Chase Tokunaga and Andy Amaro finished off the victory with 1 1/3 innings of one hit relief to seal the victory. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out 16 hits in the game as every offensive starter had at least one hit. Freshman Justin Bohn led the way for the Golden Eagles, as he went 4-5 with four RBI's and three runs scored. Sophomores Austin Bali and Naea Kalehuawehe and freshmen Ryan McMonigle and Mike Egami also added two hits each, with Bali also adding three RBI's. Sophomore Kyle Ford scored two runs and hit a solo home run for the Golden Eagles in the fifth inning.

In Sunday's clinching victory the Golden Eagles and Panthers traded punches for nine innings as the Golden Eagles won 11-10. Each team started off by scoring three runs in the 1st inning and Sacramento City also scored two runs in the second and one in the third to take a 6-3 lead into the fourth inning. The Golden Eagles answered with a single run in the fourth inning, two more runs in the fifth inning, and three runs in the sixth inning to take a   9-6 lead that they would never surrender. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out 12 hits in the game, led by freshman Justin Bohn and his 5 hits. Bohn was 5-5, scored three runs, had three RBI's, and hit a solo homer in the seventh inning. Sophomore Paul Cagle added two hits and an RBI and freshman Brock Asher added two hits and three RBI's. On the mound freshman Grant Mattes picked up his second victory of the season in relief of sophomore starter Alex Vetter. Mattes went three innings, allowing four hits, one run, and he struck out two hitters. Freshman Michael Bennett pitched the ninth inning to pick up his first save of the season, as he allowed one run and struck out one hitter.

Golden Eagles To Host Regionals For 6th Consecutive Season

QUINYC, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles will begin the 2012 post-season at home, as they host Sacramento City College on Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th in a best 2 out of 3 series. This will be the third time in four years that the Golden Eagles and Panthers have squared off in the regional round at Feather River College. The Golden Eagles defeated the Panthers in the 2009 regional and the Panthers returned the favor in 2011. The first game of the regional is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 pm with games two and three of the series set for Sunday at 11:00 am.

The Golden Eagles come into the playoffs fresh off their sixth consecutive Golden Valley Conference championship and their sixth straight 30 plus win season. The Golden Eagles will have their hands full hosting the Panthers this weekend, "Sacramento City College is always one of the best programs in Northern California year in and year out," said Head Coach Terry Baumgartner. "We are very excited about this opportunity to play such a great program and we have all the respect in the world for them. This is going to be a very tough weekend for us, but it should be a great series between two great ballclubs," added Baumgartner.

Golden Eagles Selected to All-Academic Team

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles had two players selected to the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association 2011 All-Academic Team as announced by the CCCBCA office. Former Golden Eagles, Cody Anderson (Quincy, CA) and Kyle Stone (Carson City, NV) were the two players honored. Anderson finished the 2011 spring semester with a 3.65 GPA and Stone finished with the 2nd best GPA in the state with a 3.97. Anderson currently pitches in the Cleveland Indians organization after being selected in the 14th round last June following two seasons with the Golden Eagles. Stone is currently playing 2nd base at Jacksonville State University after a very successful two seasons for the Golden Eagles, where he was selected to the first team All-Golden Valley Conference both seasons.

Golden Eagles Win 6th Consecutive GVC Crown

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles captured their sixth consecutive Golden Valley Conference championship on Wednesday by sweeping College of the Siskiyous by scores of 12-0 and 13-6. The Golden Eagles not only secured their sixth consecutive championship but will also now host the Regional play-offs on Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th against an opponent to be announced on Sunday, April 29th by the CCCBCA office. With the sweep the Golden Eagles are now 26-5 overall and 14-3 in the Golden Valley conference.

Wednesday's game one victory for the Golden Eagles started with a strong pitching performance from freshman Matt Thomas. Thomas threw a complete game, tossing seven shutout innings allowing five hits and striking out five batters in his first collegiate start. The offense provided all the support Thomas would need as the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings. The Golden Eagles offense pounded out 13 hits in game one, as sophomore Austin Bali led the way with four hits and three RBI's. Freshman Justin Bohn added three hits, four runs scored, and two RBI's and fellow freshman Alden Goebel added two hits and three RBI's for the Golden Eagles.

Game two started similar to game one for the Golden Eagles, as they scored six times in top of the 1st inning on their way to the 13-6 victory. The Golden Eagles offense exploded for 18 hits in game two, as sophomore Paul Cagle and freshman Brock Asher each had four hits in the game. Cagle and Asher also added two RBI's and sophomores Sean Ryan and Naea Kalehuawehe added two hits each as well. On the mound the Golden Eagles used four pitchers, as freshman Jace Puckett picked up the victory. The four pitchers for the Golden Eagles combined to strike out 11 hitters and walk one in the nine innings.

Up next for the Golden Eagles, now 26-5 on the season, will be a GVC weekend doubleheader at home on Saturday against Butte College starting at 1:00 pm. Then the Golden Eagles will travel back to College of the Siskiyous for a single game on Sunday starting at 2:00 pm. Saturday's doubleheader will be broadcast on the radio starting 15 minutes before the first pitch. Golden Eagles Win Series Over Lassen

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles continued their stranglehold on first place in the Golden Valley Conference by winning the weekend series over Lassen College. The Golden Eagles split a doubleheader with the Cougars on Saturday, winning game one 8-6 before dropping the nightcap 7-6. The Golden Eagles got the series win on Sunday by a score of 13-6. With the series victory the Golden Eagles are now 24-5 and 12-3 in conference play.

In Saturday's game one victory the Golden Eagles used timely hitting and good starting pitching to win 8-6. The Golden Eagles overcame a 6-2 deficit by scoring five runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out 14 hits in game one, as freshman Justin Bohn and sophomore Austin Bali led the way with three hits each. Bohn had a home run, three RBI's and a double, while Bali added three runs scored. Freshman Michael Bennett picked up his 8th win of the season as he threw his second complete game of the year. Bennett went nine innings and allowed only three earned runs. The nightcap of the doubleheader saw the Golden Eagles fall 7-6 to the Cougars. Offensively the Golden Eagles were led by freshmen Alden Goebel and Justin Bohn, as they each had two hits in the game. Sophomore Andy Amaro was the hard luck loser, as he struck out 9 hitters in his six plus innings of work and he allowed three earned runs.

On Sunday, the Golden Eagles broke out the bats to cruise to a 13-6 victory over the Cougars. The Golden Eagles offense pounded out 15 hits on the day led by sophomore Austin Bali and his three hits. Sophomores Paul Cagle and Naea Kalehuawehe and freshmen Justin Bohn and Brock Asher each added two hits apiece. Cagle also had a home run and four RBI's in the game. On the mound freshman Jace Puckett picked up the victory with 4 1/3 innings of relief, as he allowed four hits, one run, and he struck out four batters.

Golden Eagles Sweep Shasta College

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles got their first three game sweep in Golden Valley Conference play this weekend by sweeping the Shasta College Knights at the Eagle's Nest on Friday and Saturday. The Golden Eagles swept the doubleheader on Friday by scores of 14-2 and 6-2 and then finished off the three game sweep with a 10-3 victory on Saturday. With the sweep the Golden Eagles are now 22-4 overall on the season and 10-2 in GVC play.

The Golden Eagles used timely hitting and good pitching to cruise to the 14-2 victory in game one of the doubleheader on Friday. Sophomore Alex Vetter picked up his fifth victory of the season as he allowed six hits, one run, three walks, and struck out six batters in his five innings of work. Freshman Joel Duggins pitched the final two innings allowing one run and striking out two batters. The Golden Eagles offense was led by sophomores Austin Bali and Sean Ryan as they had two hits apiece, while freshman Mike Egami added two hits and three RBI's. In game two of the doubleheader, freshman Michael Bennett recorded his team leading seventh victory on the season for the Golden Eagles in the 6-2 win for the Golden Eagles. Bennett pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, two runs, and he struck out nine Shasta batters. Sophomore Chase Tokunaga came on in the ninth to close out the victory for the Golden Eagles. Offensively for the Golden Eagles, freshman Alden Goebel led the way with three hits and two runs scored and fellow freshman Ryan McMonigle added two hits and an RBI.

The Golden Eagles bats woke up on Saturday, as the Golden Eagles pounded out 18 hits in the 10-3 victory.  Sophomore Paul Cagle led the hit parade with four hits and freshman Alden Goebel added three hits and three stolen bases. Freshmen Brock Asher, Ryan McMonigle, Justin Bohn, and sophomore Austin Bali each added two hits apiece. Bali had the big hit of the afternoon as he had a bases clearing double in the Golden Eagles five run fifth inning. On the mound for the Golden Eagles, freshman Matt Thomas picked up his second win of the season. Thomas relieved starter Jace Puckett in the second inning, and went 3 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and no earned runs. Sophomore Andy Amaro pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts, and freshmen Maclane Brady and Tyler Eaton each pitched a scoreless inning, as the trio allowed zero hits in their four innings of combined relief.

Up next for the Golden Eagles, now 22-4 on the season, will be GVC rival Lassen College for a three game series this weekend. Games one and two of the series are scheduled for Saturday, April 14th at the Eagle's Nest with a start time of 1:00 pm. Sunday's series finale will begin with first pitch at 2:00 pm at Memorial Field in Susanville. Golden Eagles Take Series Over Butte

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles split a doubleheader yesterday at Butte College, but won the three game series in the process to maintain first place in the Golden Valley Conference. The Golden Eagles won game one of the series on Thursday at Butte College by a score of 7-2. Sunday's doubleheader was supposed to be played at the Eagle's Nest but due to wet field conditions the game was moved to Butte College. The Golden Eagles and Roadrunners split the doubleheader yesterday as Butte won game one 4-3 and the Golden Eagles won game two by a score of 14-1. The Golden Eagles are now 19-4 overall and 7-2 in GVC play.

In Thursday's game one of the series the Golden Eagles used timely hitting and good starting pitching to beat the Roadrunners, 7-2. Sophomore Alex Vetter took the mound in game one for the Golden Eagles and picked up his fourth victory of the season, as he went seven innings and he allowed five hits, two runs, and he struck out two hitters. Freshman Grant Mattes finished the game by pitching the final two innings, allowing no hits and striking out one hitter. The Golden Eagles offense was led by a trio of hitters, as Justin Bohn, Austin Bali, and Naea Kalehuawehe each had two hits for the Golden Eagles. Bali and Kalehuawehe each added two RBI's as well in game one.

Game two of the series on Sunday saw the Golden Eagles offense unable to come through with the clutch hit as they lost 4-3. The Golden Eagles offense could only muster up eight hits in game one of the doubleheader and they stranded eight baserunners. Freshman Justin Bohn and sophomore Austin Bali each had two hits for the Golden Eagles and Bali added two RBI's. Sophomore Sean Ryan got the scoring started for the Golden Eagles with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. The Golden Eagles had the tying run on second base in the top of the ninth but couldn't push the run across. Freshman Michael Bennett suffered his first loss of the season, as he allowed five hits and four runs in his seven plus innings of work.

Game three of the series saw the Golden Eagles offense come alive as they pounded out eleven hits on their way to an easy 14-1 victory over Butte College. The Golden Eagles offense had many contributors in game two of the doubleheader as a trio of freshmen each had two hits. The trio was led by Justin Bohn and his two hits and three runs scored, Mike Egami also added two hits and three runs scored, while Grant Mattes added two hits, one run scored and two RBI's to the group. Another freshman, Jeremy Rosenthal, added three RBI's for the Golden Eagles. On the mound freshman Jace Puckett picked up his second victory of the season, as he allowed one hit, zero runs, and he struck out four in his five innings of work. Sophomore Andy Amaro and freshman Matt Thomas finished off the two hitter as they pitched an inning each with three strikeouts combined.

Up next for the Golden Eagles, now 19-4 on the season, will be GVC rival Shasta College for a three game series this weekend. Golden Eagles Sweep Siskiyous

QUINCY, CA - Northern California's top ranked baseball team, the Feather River College Golden Eagles swept a Golden Valley Conference doubleheader from College of the Siskiyous on Friday by scores of 13-4 and 6-2. With the sweep the Golden Eagles are now 17-3 overall and 5-1 in GVC play.

The Golden Eagles bats finally woke up this spring, as the offense produced 18 hits in game one to cruise to a 13-4 victory over College of the Siskiyous. The offense was led by sophomore Austin Bali and freshman Justin Bohn, as they each had four hits in game one. Bali also added three RBI's and Bohn drove in one run and scored two runs. Freshman Ryan Coleman added a three run homer, his first of the season, in the bottom of the fourth to spark the Golden Eagles. Sophomore Naea Kalehuawehe and freshman Mike Egami also added two hits apiece and Egamis scored four runs. On the mound the Golden Eagles got clutch relief pitching from sophomore Chase Tokunaga, as he picked up his second victory of the season. Tokunaga went 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits, no earned runs and he struck out three batters. Freshman Maclane Brady through a scoreless ninth inning for the Golden Eagles, as he gave up no hits and he struck out one batter.

In game two the Golden Eagles overcame a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the seventh by scoring one run in the 7th and four more in the 8th inning to win 6-2. The big blow for the Golden Eagles offense came from freshman Jose Sierra, as he hit a three run homer in the bottom of the 8th. Sierra finished the game with two hits, two runs scored and three RBI's. The Golden Eagles offense pounded out 14 hits in game two, led by freshman Justin Bohn and his four hits. Sophomores Austin Bali and Paul Cagle each added three hits and sophomore Kyle Ford added two hits and a solo home run. The Golden Eagles once again got a solid start from freshman Jace Puckett, as he went 5 1/3 innings and he allowed one earned run, five hits, and he struck out six batters. Fellow freshman Grant Mattes picked up his first victory of the season in his 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief. Mattes allowed one hit and he walked one batter.

The Golden Eagles, now 17-3 on the season, will face GVC rival Butte College for a three game series this weekend. Game one of the series is scheduled for Friday, March 30th at Butte College with 1st pitch set for 2:00 p.m.  The series will then shift to the Eagle's Nest for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 31st with a start time of 1:00 p.m.  Friday and Saturday's games are scheduled to be on the radio with a broadcast time starting 15 minutes before the 1st pitch. Golden Eagles Beat Lassen

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles swept a two game mid-week series against GVC rival Lassen College on Monday and Tuesday. The Golden Eagles won game one of the series on Monday at the Eagle's Nest by a score of 6-1 and then defeated the Cougars on Tuesday in Susanville by a score of 12-6. With the sweep the Golden Eagles are now 15-3 overall and 3-1 in GVC play.

In Monday's game the Golden Eagles received a great pitching effort from Sophomore Alex Vetter to defeat the Cougars 6-1. Vetter worked the first seven innings, allowing seven hits, one run, one walk, and he struck out five cougar hitters as he improved his record to 3-1 on the season. Freshman Joel Duggins finished up the game with two shutout innings of work while striking out four hitters. The Golden Eagles offense was able to hammer out ten hits in the game, led by freshman Jose Sierra and his two hits, two RBI's and solo home run in the bottom of the 1st. Freshman Brock Asher and sophomore Austin Bali also added two hits apiece for the Golden Eagles.

On Tuesday the Golden Eagles beat the Cougars 12-6 behind the pitching of freshman Michael Bennett. Bennett ran his record to 6-0 on the season, as he threw the first eight innings of the game allowing six hits, one walk, 1 earned run, and he struck out 6 hitters. Fellow freshman Matt Thomas, pitched the ninth inning allowing one earned run and striking out one cougar hitter. The Golden Eagles offense pounded out sixteen hits on the day as a trio of hitters had three hits apiece. Freshmen Jose Sierra and Brock Asher along with sophomore Paul Cagle each had three hits on the day, and Cagle and Asher each hit home runs. Cagle also finished the day with five RBI's and two runs scored.

The Golden Eagles are now 15-3 on the season. The Golden Eagles will now face GVC opponent College of the Siskiyous on Friday at the Eagle's Nest at 1:00 pm for a doubleheader. The two teams will then meet up on Monday at Shasta College for a single game at 3:00 pm. Friday's game is scheduled to be on the radio with a broadcast time starting 15 minutes before the 1st pitch. Golden Eagles Beat Merced

QUINCY, CA - The top ranked Feather River College Golden Eagles defeated second ranked Merced College on Thursday by a score of 3-1. Thursday's non-conference contest was played at a neutral site for both teams, as they played at Sierra College in Rocklin. The Golden Eagles used timely hitting and clutch pitching to pull out the hard fought victory over the Blue Devils. With the victory the Golden Eagles are now 13-3 on the season.

The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning. The Blue Devils responded by pushing a run across in the top of fourth with two outs and the Golden Eagles got an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh to complete the scoring in their 3-1 victory.  On the mound for the Golden Eagles freshman Michael Bennett picked up his fifth victory of the season, as he pitched the first four innings. He allowed four hits, one run, and he struck out three Blue Devil hitters. Sophomore Andy Amaro pitched two shutout innings, allowing no hits and striking out two hitters. Fellow sophomore Alex Vetter went the final three innings, as he allowed one hit, one walk, and he struck out one batter to pick up his first save of the season. The Golden Eagles offense was led by sophomore Paul Cagle and his two hits and two RBI's. Cagle got the scoring started for the Golden Eagles with a one out single in the bottom of the third that scored the first two runs. Freshman Mike Egami also added two hits and a run scored for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles are now 13-3 on the season. The Golden Eagles will now take the weekend off as they get ready for GVC play again next Friday, March 16th against Lassen College. Friday's game will be the home opener for the Golden Eagles and first pitch is set for 2:00 pm. Following Friday's single game both teams will square off in a doubleheader on Saturday at Lassen College with a noon start time.  Friday and Saturday's games are scheduled to be on the radio with a broadcast time starting 15 minutes before the 1st pitch. Golden Eagles Ranked #1 in Northern California

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles are ranked #1 in Northern California, in the first CCCBCA Coaches poll of the season. The Golden Eagles received 14 first place votes to finish ahead of Merced College and Sierra College, who finished ranked #2 and #3 respectively. This is the second year in a row that the Golden Eagles have reached the #1 spot in the polls. The Golden Eagles are currently 12-3 and will take on 2nd ranked Merced College in a single game on Thursday afternoon in Sacramento. Thursdays game will be on the radio with a broadcast time starting 15 minutes before the 1st pitch, which is scheduled for 2:00 pm. Golden Eagles Split With Shasta; Make Change To Schedule

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles opened up Golden Valley Conference play on the road at Shasta College with a split on Saturday, as the Golden Eagles won game one 15-5 and lost the nightcap of the doubleheader to the Knights 4-0. The third game of the series has been moved to Saturday, April 7th as part of a three game set when the Knights travel to Quincy.  With the doubleheader split the Golden Eagles are now 12-3 overall and 1-1 in GVC play.

In Saturday's first game the Golden Eagles pounded out 15 hits and scored in six of the seven innings of play, as they cruised to a 15-5 victory. Freshmen Justin Bohn and Ryan Coleman led the way for the Golden Eagles offense, as they each had three hits and three RBI's. Freshmen Mike Egami and Shane Fencl each added two hits for the Golden Eagles as eight of the nine starters had one hit. The Golden Eagles were able to break the game open with a seven run fourth inning. On the mound for the Golden Eagles sophomore Alex Vetter picked up his second win of the season by throwing three hit ball over the first four innings and striking out four Knights batters. In game two the Golden Eagles gave up four runs in the bottom of the eighth to lose 4-0. On the mound freshman Michael Bennett provided the Golden Eagles with his fifth consecutive quality start, as he went the first six innings. Bennett allowed six hits, one walk, and he struck out four batters in his six shutout innings. Sophomore Andy Amaro suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed three earned runs. The Golden Eagles struggled all game offensively to get the key hit, as they left nine runners on base in the game. Freshman Jose Sierra had two of the three Golden Eagle hits.

The Golden Eagles are now 12-3 on the season. The Golden Eagles will now play their final non-conference opponent this Thursday, as they take on the Merced College Blue Devils.  The game will be played at Sierra College in Rocklin at 2:00 pm. Thursdays game is tentatively scheduled to be on the radio with a broadcast time starting 15 minutes before the 1st pitch. Golden Eagles Win 2 of 3 In Bay Area

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles finished their final non-conference road trip of the season by winning two out of three games against highly ranked competition. The Golden Eagles started the trip in Santa Rosa with a 3-1 loss on Friday. The Golden Eagles then traveled to San Mateo on Saturday and defeated the bulldogs by a score of 3-1. The trip finale was played at Ohlone College on Sunday, as the Golden Eagles won by a score of 5-1 to improve their overall record to 11-2 on the season.

On Friday at Santa Rosa Junior College, the Golden Eagles struggled to get the key hit offensively as they stranded 10 baserunners in the 3-1 loss. The Golden Eagles were able to accumulate just 7 hits in the game, as freshmen Kyle Hemsley, Jose Sierra, and Ryan Coleman each had two hits in the game. Sophomore Paul Cagle added a pinch hit single in the top of the 9th to drive in the lone run for the Golden Eagles. On the mound for the Golden Eagles sophomore Alex Vetter went the first four innings, and he allowed two hits, zero runs, one walk, and he struck out four batters. Freshman Jace Puckett, pitched the final four innings to get the loss as he gave up three runs but only one earned run.

The Golden Eagles traveled to San Mateo on Saturday for a showdown with the bulldogs and came out on top with a 3-1 victory. The Golden Eagles were led by the pitching of sophomore Andy Amaro, as he improved his record to 3-0 on the season. Amaro pitched 7 2/3 innings of four hit baseball allowing one unearned run and striking out three. Freshman Matt Thomas came on to pitch the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up his first save of the season. Offensively the Golden Eagles struggled to get seven hits in the game, but it proved to be enough for the victory. A trio of freshmen each had two hits in the game as Justin Bohn, Jose Sierra, and Alden Goebel each provided the spark for the offense with their multi-hit game.

In Sunday's final game of the three game road trip, the Golden Eagles were able to pull off a hard fought 5-1 victory over the Renegades of Ohlone College. Once again the Golden Eagles strong pitching was on display, as freshman Michael Bennett picked up his fourth victory of the season. Bennett went the first six innings, allowing six hits one unearned run and he struck out three batters. Freshman Grant Mattes pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three batters. Sophomore Chase Tokunaga finished the game by pitching a scoreless ninth inning while striking out one Renegade batter. In the three games on the road trip, the Golden Eagles allowed one earned run in 27 innings of work on the mound.  Offensively the Golden Eagles were able to break up a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh by pushing across three runs in the inning. The offense could only muster up six hits on the day but they were key hits for the Golden Eagles. Freshman Brock Asher led the Golden Eagles with two hits off the bench and one RBI.

The Golden Eagles are now 11-2 on the season. The Golden Eagles now begin Golden Valley Conference play this Friday and Saturday, as they take on the Shasta College Knights. Friday's home opener for the Golden Eagles will begin with first pitch at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader at Shasta College will begin at 11:00 a.m.. Golden Eagles Sweep Yuba

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles swept a three game non-conference series at Yuba College on Friday and Saturday. In Friday's single game of the series the Golden Eagles beat the 49ers by a score of 14-2, and they swept Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 7-5 and 10-5. With the sweep the Golden Eagles improved their season record to 9-1.

In Friday's game played at Engelken Field on the campus of Yuba College, the Golden Eagles pounded out 19 hits to cruise to a 14-2 victory. The offense was led by sophomore Naea Kalehuawehe and his four hits, two home runs, and five RBI's. Eight of the nine offensive starters for the Golden Eagles had a hit, as freshmen Mike Egami and Brock Asher each had four hits apiece as well in game one of the series. Asher added two RBI's and Egami drove in three runs on the day. On the mound the Golden Eagles were led by sophomore Andy Amaro as he improved to 2-0 on the season. In his second start of the season, Amaro went six solid innings, allowing seven hits, one earned run, and he struck out four. Freshmen Maclane Brady and Troy Hansen finished up the victory for the Golden Eagles by throwing a combined three shutout innings.

Game one Saturday saw the Golden Eagles come back from a three run deficit in the top of the eighth with a five run explosion, as they went on to win game one 7-5. The Golden Eagles pounded out 12 hits as five different starters had two hits apiece. On the mound freshman Matt Thomas picked up his first collegiate win with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Thomas allowed three hits, two walks, and he struck out three. Sophomore Chase Tokunaga came on to pitch the final 1 1/3 innings for his second save of the season. Tokunaga allowed one hit and struck out two hitters to secure the game one victory. In game two the Golden Eagles scored early and often on their way to the 10-5 victory. The Golden Eagles offense pounded out twelve hits, for their third straight game of the series with double figure hits. The offense was led by freshman Jose Sierra and his three hits and five RBI's. Sierra was a triple away from hitting for the cycle and freshman Mike Egami also added two hits in game two with two RBI's. On the mound freshman Michael Bennett picked up his third win in as many starts. Bennett pitched five innings, allowing six hits, zero runs, one walk, and three strikeouts.

The Golden Eagles are now 9-1 on the season. The Golden Eagles will next travel to the San Francisco bay area for a three game weekend beginning Friday at Santa Rosa Junior College for a 2:00 pm start. On Saturday the Golden Eagles will travel to San Mateo for a 1:00 pm game, and finish the three game road trip on Sunday at Ohlone College for a noon start. Saturday and Sunday's game are tentatively scheduled to be on the radio with a broadcast time starting 15 minutes before the 1st pitch. Golden Eagles Pitching Continues Hot Start

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles baseball team continued its early season success on the diamond by winning two of three games on their latest road trip. The Golden Eagles defeated American River College in 11 innings on Friday by a score of 7-5.  On Saturday at Sierra College the Golden Eagles suffered their first defeat of the season by a score of 9-1. The Golden Eagles came back on Sunday to face a tough Cabrillo College team and came away with a 6-2 victory.

In Friday's contest at Beaver Stadium, the Golden Eagles needed 11 innings to pull off the 7-5 victory. The Golden Eagles received their 5th straight quality start, as freshman left hander Jace Puckett threw the first five innings. Puckett allowed three hits, two walks, struck out three, and gave up zero earned runs as he received a no decision. Sophomore Andy Amaro follwed Puckett with 5 1/3 innings of four hit baseball. Amaro struck out seven, allowed four hits, and two earned runs for the victory. Freshman Grant Mattes recorded his second save of the season, as he came into the game with runners on 1st and 3rd with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning and induced a one pitch game ending double play. Offensively the Golden Eagles were led by freshman shortstop Justin Bohn and his three hits and three RBI's. Bohn delivered the game winning hit in the top of the 11th inning, as he stroked a bases loaded triple with one out. Freshman Kyle Hemsley also added one hit and two RBI's for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles traveled to Sierra College on Saturday and suffered their first defeat of the season to the Wolverines, 9-1, as the Golden Eagles struggled with their defense. The Golden Eagles received another quality start as sophomore Alex Vetter went five innings, allowing six hits, three earned runs, and he struck out three. Freshmen Travis Kelley and Joel Duggins each recorded a scoreless inning of work for the Golden Eagles. Offensively the Golden Eagles could only muster five hits on the day, as sophomore Naea Kalehuawehe led the way with two hits, one double, and one run scored. Fellow sophomore Austin Bali, delivered an RBI double for the lone run for the Golden Eagles.

To finish off the weekend the Golden Eagles traveled to Delta College in Stockton to play the Cabrillo College Seahawks in a neutral site game. The Golden Eagles were designated as the home team and appropriately pushed across two runs in the bottom of the first inning on their way to the 6-2 victory. The Golden Eagles offense was led by freshman centerfielder, Mike Egami, and his three hits and three RBI's. Fellow freshman Ryan McMonigle and sophomore Naea Kalehuawehe also added two hits apiece for the Golden Eagles. On the mound the Golden Eagles were led by freshman Michael Bennett. Bennett provided the seventh straight quality start for the Golden Eagles, as he allowed five hits, one run, walked one, and struck out four on his way to his second victory of the season. Sophomore Chase Tokunaga came on in the eighth and shut the door on the Hawks, with 1 2/3 hitless innings to go along with two strikeouts.

The Golden Eagles are now 6-1 on the season. The Golden Eagles will next travel to Yuba College for a three game series starting with a single game on Friday at 2:00 pm and a doubleheader on Saturday at 11:00 am. Golden Eagles Begin 2012 Season With A Four Game Sweep

QUINCY, CA - The 2012 Feather River College Golden Eagles baseball team started off the season with four hard fought victories on the road. The Golden Eagles opened up the season on Friday at Taft College with a doubleheader sweep of the Cougars by scores of 7-2 and 4-3. On Saturday the Golden Eagles needed ten innings to pull off the victory over the Cougars by a score of 7-6. The Golden Eagles finished off the first road trip of the season in Fresno to take on Northern California power Fresno City College on Sunday. The Golden Eagles beat the Rams by a score of 4-2, to hand the Rams their first loss of the season.

On Friday at Taft College the Golden Eagles combined good starting pitching and clutch relief pitching, with timely hitting to pull off their first doubleheader sweep of the season. In game one the Golden Eagles started sophomore Alex Vetter on the mound and he responded with six solid innings, giving up two unearned runs, two hits, two walks, and he struck out nine batters. Freshman Grant Mattes threw the final three innings for his first save of the season, as he allowed one hit and he struck out four cougar hitters. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out 12 hits, led by freshman Kyle Hemsley and his three hits. Freshmen Mike Egami and Brock Asher added two hits each, as did sophomore Cody Gappa, with Asher, Hemsley, and Gappa each driving in two runs. In game two of the doubleheader the Golden Eagles held on for a 4-3 win. After jumping out to a 4-1 lead the Golden Eagles had to hold off the cougars in the ninth inning as the cougars loaded the bases with no outs, but sophomore Chase Tokunaga came on to close the door and get his first save of the season. Freshman Jace Puckett started on the mound for the Golden Eagles going the first five innings, he allowed three hits while striking out eight and walking one in his college debut to get his first collegiate victory. Fellow freshman Matt Thomas, followed up Puckett with three scoreless innings. Offensively the Golden Eagles pounded out ten hits, led by sophomore Austin Bali and freshmen Brock Asher and Chadwick Kaalekahi and their two hits each.

In the final game of the three game series, the Golden Eagles needed extra innings to capture the sweep and the 7-6 victory. The Golden Eagles got their third straight quality start of the season, as sophomore Andy Amaro pitched a solid six innings. Amaro allowed six hits, three runs, two walks, and he struck out nine batters. Freshman Joel Duggins made his Golden Eagle debut with one plus innings of work, and sophomore Chase Tokunage came in to pitch the final three innings. Tokunaga allowed one hit, zero runs, and struck out three for his first win of the season. The Golden Eagles offense pounded out ten hits for their third straight game of double figure hits. The offense was led by sophomore Austin Bali and his three hits. Freshmen Chadwick Kaalekahi and Mike Egami each added two hits apiece, with Kaalekahi driving in the winning run in the tenth inning for the Golden Eagles.

The finale of the Golden Eagles first road trip was at Fresno City College on Super Bowl Sunday. Fresno City came into the game ranked 11th in Northern California and the Golden Eagles were ranked seventh.  The Golden Eagles were able to pull out the 4-2 victory over the Rams behind the pitching of freshman right-hander Michael Bennett. Bennett threw a 97 pitch complete game in his first collegiate start, as he allowed seven hits, two runs, one walk, and he struck out four hitters including the final hitter of the game. Offensively the Golden Eagles pushed across a single run in the second inning, two runs in the fifth inning, and a single run in the ninth inning. Freshmen Kyle Hemsley and Brock Asher led the Golden Eagles with two hits apiece.

The Golden Eagles next three games are on the road in the Sacramento area as they face American River College on Friday, Sierra College on Saturday, and Cabrillo College on Sunday. Friday's game is a 2:00 pm start, while Saturday and Sunday game times will be 1:00 pm, also Sunday's game will be played at Delta College in Stockton. Golden Eagles Start 2012 Season On The Road

QUINCY, CA - The Feather River College Golden Eagles baseball team will begin the 2012 season on the road for the first four weekends in February. The Golden Eagles begin the 2012 season ranked #7 in the Northern California pre-season poll. The Golden Eagles open the season at Taft College for a three game series and follow that with a single game at #11 ranked Fresno City College. The Golden Eagles will take on the Cougars starting with a doubleheader on Friday, February 3rd and finish the series with a single game on Saturday, February 4th. The Golden Eagles will then finish the road trip with a single game on Sunday, February 5th at Fresno City College. "We pride ourselves in playing one of the toughest pre-season schedules in Northern California. Our goal every year is to play the best teams in California so that we are prepared for Golden Valley Conference play," commented Golden Eagles Head Coach, Terry Baumgartner. "We have once again put together a challenging pre-season schedule for our 2012 team and with 9 new position starters on offense, we need to be challenged every game. We have a very young and inexperienced club that has worked really hard to prepare for the season and we are very excited for the season to begin," added Baumgartner.

The Golden Eagles home opener is scheduled for Friday, March 2nd with Shasta College. This Friday's doubleheader with Taft College will begin at 10:30 a.m. and Saturday's contest will start at 1:00 pm. Sunday's single game against Fresno City College will begin at noon.
