Complete a FAFSA
Submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) allows you to be considered for federal and state grants, federal and state work study programs, and federal student loans. If you filed a FAFSA last year you will be able to save time by starting a pre-fill FAFSA. You must know your Federal PIN to file a pre-fill FAFSA. The FAFSA asks for financial information found mostly on tax returns. If a student has not filed a tax return yet, a student can use estimates from December paystubs and other end-of-year records. The numbers can be corrected later, if necessary. There are paper and electronic versions of the FAFSA, you can file electronically at www.fafsa.gov
|
Request a Federal PIN
You can save time by using a Federal PIN to "sign" your FAFSA electronically. Your parents can also apply for a PIN. If you provide an e-mail address you will receive your PIN via e-mail. If not, you will receive your PIN through postal mail. If you have misplaced your PIN, you can visit the Web site above and request a duplicate PIN. Make sure to verify your e-mail and mailing address at the same time and update the information if it has changed. You do not need to have a Federal PIN to file a FAFSA. You can also sign by printing a signature page and mailing it or turning it in to our office. |
Financial Aid Package
Once you have submitted your FAFSA, you will receive a SAR (Student Aid Report) which will have the information you provided on your FAFSA, as well as your EFC (Expected Family Contribution), the number used to determine your federal and state eligibility. Once the Financial Aid Office receives the electronically processed financial aid application from the federal processing center, it will be evaluated. The Financial Aid Office will construct a preliminary financial aid package and it will be sent to the student. This package will include a preliminary award letter and will also request additional supporting documentation. |
Supporting Documentation
Students are asked to provide requested documentation as soon as possible. This documentation may include tax returns or verification on any untaxed income reported on the FAFSA. For a full list of required documentation the student can check his or her financial aid status on the student portal, or the forms can be printed off of the FRC Financial Aid website on the forms page. Students failing to provide documentation WILL NOT be eligible to receive federal assistance. |
Continuing To Receive Aid
Students receiving aid will be required to make satisfactory academic progress. Federal regulations require that all students receiving Title IV aid and some state aid must meet or exceed the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy standards established at this institution. Please Note: The FRC Financial Aid SAP Policy has been revised effective Fall 2011. The revised policy has been posted on our website and is available in the Financial Aid Dept. |
Student Loans
Those interested in taking student loans will need to complete a student loan request as well as sign and return the loan guidelines to the Financial Aid Office. Those students who are first-year as well as a first time borrower at Feather River College must fulfill an Entrance Counseling requirement and a Master Promissory Note.
How much can I borrow?
FRC is a two-year institution, therefore, students are only eligible to apply for a first-year (less than 30 units completed) or a second-year (30 units or more completed) student loan.
