Workshop and Activity Plan
2005-2006 School Year
Note: Detailed Site Schedules will be posted in September

- Advisors meet with Principals and Teachers to establish schedules and secure availability of rooms for tutoring and workshops
September

Set up shop in FRC Talent Search Centers

Begin implementing tutoring services (Time and place will be determined by individual advisors, but shooting for Tuesday and Thursday afternoons)

Further recruiting efforts primarily in 6th-8th grade classrooms
October
- Weekly tutoring for middle school students Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at designated locations.
- Workshops will be held the week of October 4th-6th
- 6th grade: General exposure to ETS program (achieved through recruiting, tutoring)
- 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th grade: Study Skills (Middle grade emphasis on time management)
- 9th grade: High School Planning…make it count!
- 12th grade: Choosing the College that is Right for you
- FRC’s College Vocation and Career Night
November
- Weekly tutoring for middle school students Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at designated locations.
- Workshops will be held the week of November 1st-8th
- 6th grade: Body image and self confidence
- 7-9th grade: Technology (activities with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint)
- 10-11 grade: Goal Setting (colleges, careers, etc)
- 12th grade: The Senior Timeline (Financial Aid and College Admissions Deadlines
December
- Weekly tutoring for middle school students Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at designated locations.
- No workshops to be held in December due to the holiday break.
January
- Weekly tutoring for middle school students Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at designated locations.
- Workshops will be held the week of January 24th-28th
- 6th-10th grade: None
- 11th-12th grade: Introduction to Financial Aid , parent meeting to accompany student workshop.
February
- Weekly tutoring for middle school students Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at designated locations.
- Workshops will be held the week of February 7th-11th
- 6th grade: Personal Responsibility
- 7th-8th grade: Test-Taking Skills
- 9th grade: The Four Year Plan (High School Planning)
- 10th grade: Exploring Careers, Financial Aid Awareness
- 11th-12th grade: FAFSA on the Web.
March
- Weekly tutoring for middle school students Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at designated locations.
- Workshops will be held the week of April 4th-8th
- 7th-8th grade: Exploring Careers, Planning for Leadership Summit (designation of student representative from each area served)
- 9th grade: Surviving High School video activity
- 10th-11th grade: Exploring Colleges
- 12th grade: Time Management/ Senior Checklist
April
- Weekly tutoring for middle school students Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at designated locations.
- Workshops will be held the week of April 4th-8th
- 7th-8th grade: Surviving High School, Self-Esteem and Team Building
- 9th-11th grade: SAT/ACT Preparation
- 12th grade: Time Management/ Senior Checklist
May
- Weekly tutoring for middle school students Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at designated locations.
- Workshops will be held the week of May 2nd-6th
- 7th-11th grade: Participant Update Forms
- 12th grade: Exit Interview, Four Year College Planning
Field Trips
At least one field trip per year per grade level should be provided. For middle school students the trip will focus around a cultural activity. For High school students, the trip will focus on college and career choices. Some options for the field trip include:
- FRC College Fair (Offered in fall in the FRC gym)
- Cultural Activity (Planetarium)
- FRC Job Fair (Offered in Spring in the FRC gym))
- Campus tour of four-year institution (CSU Chico/UNR)

5-day summer adventure for participants entering 6th – 8th grade
Freshman Focus
3-day summer adventure for participants entering 9th grade
