MICHELLE JAUREGUITO, DIRECTOR

Who I am

I was born in Fullerton, California in 1967. I have one brother who lives in Reno with his wife and two sons. I am married and have three children.

After graduating from high school in 1985, I attended college in Santa Barbara. At the time I did not have clear goals and lacked the motivation for success. (If only I had access to a TRiO program!) Over the next several years I worked in many different fields including real estate development, finance, escrow, mortgage banking, secondary marketing, and retail marketing in the food business. About ten years ago, I moved to Reno and decided (finally) that it was time to go back to college. Through the course of my education at a community college, I was offered an assistant teaching position in the EMS department. Eventually, that job led to a position in course curriculum development, where I created classes and workshops based on community needs, and managed a large CPR training department. While completing my education I gave birth to two children, and continued to work at TMCC (and later at FRC). I am in my fifth year at FRC where I have been employed as Outreach Director, Talent Search Director, and now as Director of Pre-College Programs. My educational work experience includes teaching, curriculum development, conducting workshops, recruitment and marketing, grant writing, fiscal administration, college admissions counseling, and event coordination. While employed at FRC, I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with my B.A. in Psychology. Recently, I completed a Masters in Education with an emphasis in Educational Administration. In a nutshell, my experience has given me a driving passion to help students, high school dropouts, and re-entry adults (like myself) to reach their highest potential in their educational and life pursuits.

My role in the Talent Search program

I am very excited to be a part of our Educational Talent Search program here at Feather River College. Getting to know each of you as program participants, parents, teachers, school administrators, and community professionals is the highlight of my experience as a new director. I am committed to providing leadership to the ETS staff and participants. Although Educational Talent Search has been around for over 35 years, it is brand new to Feather River College. It is an honor to have charge of the program’s success, and most importantly, success of our students. Putting together a strong, motivated and committed team has been one of many major tasks as new director. Our team of coordinators, office personnel and administration brings combined experience of over 30 years of teaching, advising, coaching, and educational administration.

Our communities are full of students with educational potential. The Educational Talent Search team will make it our duty to seek out students who need help reaching their potential. We will provide quality services that will enhance learning and success. I look forward to the opportunity to meet and work with each one of you!
