The questions below have been asked of the Outdoor Recreation Leadership Program.

Many potential students have more questions about the program than are listed here. Be sure to Contact Us with your inquiries. We can also put you in touch with a current student so you can talk with someone who has been through the experience before.

Once you are on campus, check out FROG, Feather River Outings Group.  FROG will take any student wishing to enjoy outdoor adventuers on outings such as whitewater rafting, hiking, rock climbing, snowshoeing, and kayaking.

What can I do with an Associate Degree in Outdoor Recreation Leadership?

Answer:

Students completing the program will be prepared for two distinct paths:

  1. Transfer to a four-year institution:

The ORL Program has established articulation agreements with CSU, Chico; San Francisco State, CSU Sacramento and Western State College of Colorado. This allows students to transfer coursework from FRC to count toward graduation requirements at the four-year schools.

  1. Obtain professional employment:

What positions can a graduate of the Outdoor Recreation Leadership Program expect to qualify for?

Answer:

Students who complete the AA requirements in the ORL Program at FRC will be prepared for employment in the following areas:

    • Raft Guides
    • Rock Climbing Instructor
    • Ski instructor / Ski guide
    • Outdoor Recreation Retail Sales
    • Ski Patrolling
    • Entrepreneurship in the outdoor recreation industry
    • Instructor for outdoor companies such as NOLS, Outward Bound, WEA
    • Kayak Instructor
    • Wilderness Ranger

Students have gone on to the following jobs:

  • Field Instructor for Sage Walk Therapeutic Wilderness Program (Brat Camp TV show)
  • Climbing Ranger on Mount Shasta
  • Climbing Guide on Mount Shasta
  • Backcountry Ranger on Mount Whitney
  • Forest Service Trail Crew Member
  • Trip Leader for Adventures Cross Country
  • Camp Manager for Yosemite Conservation Corp
  • Raft Guide (Moriah, Adrift Adventures, Redwoods and Rivers and more.)
